Tong Chen will be presenting Getting Started with Mandarin, a concise language learning website intended for students who want to preview an introductory Mandarin course. The primary goal of this project is to help students who have never heard or spoken Mandarin before, preview a class and practice basic phrases and sentences. The site content encapsulates a diverse set of environments and scenarios. It is divided into five sections. Each section presents a different format to help the user learn in a different situation e.g., video with subtitles or the text of a classroom call-and-response dialog. The website provides a truly interactive learning experience with videos, audios, text, and a self-quizz module that evaluates the learner’s pronunciation (through dictation).
