MIT Global Languages offers 21G.S07 (Special Subject): Language conversation and Brazilian Culture in São Paulo, Brazil, in January 2024, through MISTI MIT-Brazil / Global Classrooms.
Students will participate in daily language classes. Additional activities will be organized to allow students to explore historical sites, engage with scholars and various professionals, and interact with the community. Program prerequisites are Portuguese I or permission of instructor.
Language instruction will be conducted by Nilma Dominique. Class is 9 credits.

In this language and culture immersion course, students will work on mastering oral expression, reading, writing, and listening while experiencing life and culture in São Paulo, Brazil. The course is designed to build the student’s vocabulary and improve oral communication through discussion of topics related to cultural, racial, and social aspects of Brazilian society. The course aims at providing extensive listening and speaking practice in oral discourse, including argumentation, narration and description, with great emphasis on everyday life situations. In addition to examining aspects of grammar along with activities that target vocabulary enrichment and further oral proficiency, we will explore historical sites, engage with scholars and various professionals, and interact with the community.
