Bettina Stoetzer

New faculty member, Bettina Stoetzer, joins GSL this fall as Assistant Profesor in German Studies. Stoetzer is an anthropologist whose research focuses on the intersections of ecology, globalization, and urban social justice. Her current book project, Ruderal City: Ecologies of Migration and Urban Life, explores the changing cultural politics of nature and citizenship in the city of Berlin. Before coming to MIT, Bettina Stoetzer was a Harper Fellow in the Society of Fellows at the University of Chicago.

She teaches a new subject this fall, 21G.057J / WGS.275J Gender In Science Technology & Environment. The class will examine existent critiques of the racial, sexual and environmental politics at stake in techno-scientific cultures, drawing on material from popular culture, media, fiction, film, and ethnography.
