Researches have revealed the advantages of pedagogically-made videos in improving students’ language proficiency and making them better understand the culture of the target language. This project plans to make a series of videos that are specifically designed for students who take intermediate to advanced level Chinese courses at MIT. Shot both in China’s metropolis such as Shanghai and on the countryside, these videos target to present and discuss contemporary Chinese social issues and cultural phenomena in a vivid way. The integration of these videos into Chinese teaching is not only intended to demonstrate the use of language for a more efficient learning, but also enhance students’ long term interests and motivations in learning Chinese language and culture.
