On April 8 we were privileged to have a special talk by Professor Noam Chomsky to students in the Portuguese program on the genocide that took place in the Lusophone country East Timor during the occupation by Indonesia, and the current situation.

Students had an opportunity to ask questions, which were very kindly answered by Prof. Chomsky. It was a very enlightening talk and we received excellent feedback.

In other news, Portuguese lecturer Nilma Dominique gave a talk entitled “100 Shades of Black: the perception of race in Brazil” at Wellesley College on April 7, as part of the open course Unity and Diversity in the Hispanic World.
