April 8, 2020, is World Languages Day in MIT Global Languages.

According to some estimates, the top languages spoken in the world as native languages are: Chinese, Spanish, English, Hindi, Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese, and Russian. MIT currently offers classes in Chinese Studies, English Language Studies, French Studies, German Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, Spanish Studies, Russian Studies, and Portuguese Studies. Latin, Greek, and Old English are offered through the Literature section. Global Languages offers 130 classes per year, and currently has 477 concentrators and 71 minors.

To celebrate this year, Global Languages is hosting a virtual community tea.
