Dr. Convolbo gave a talk titled L’IA va-t-elle sauver ou détruire l’Afrique ? Une perspective pour les jeunes qui veulent façonner l’avenir. A specialist in artificial intelligence, big data, and digital transformation, Dr. Convolbo discussed his work at LVMH and his commitment to social impact through CONSEQUENTIAM.

On Friday, March 14th, the African Learning Circle at MIT hosted a discussion with Dr. Wendkuuni Moïse Convolbo, an expert in artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and digital transformation. The event, held in French, drew a large audience eager to learn how AI could shape Africa’s future. Dr. Convolbo, who calls himself an “afro-optimist,” sees AI as a powerful tool for economic growth and social progress. Rather than focusing on obstacles, he highlighted the many ways AI can drive innovation and improve essential services, particularly in agriculture, healthcare, and education. He emphasized that AI, when adapted to local contexts, has the potential to increase efficiency in farming, enhance medical diagnostics, and expand access to education.

Dr. Convolbo emphasized the importance of Africa taking an active role in shaping its AI future. He called for greater investment in infrastructure, education, and research to ensure AI is developed in ways that reflect African realities and priorities. While acknowledging challenges such as ethical concerns and regulatory gaps, he emphasized that cooperation between governments, businesses, and researchers is essential to harness AI’s full potential for the continent.

Dr. Convolbo is the Senior Data Manager at LVMH, where he develops AI solutions for the luxury industry. He is also the founder of CONSEQUENTIAM, an initiative that supports young people in the African diaspora who want to contribute to Africa’s development. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and has expertise in cloud computing, data management, and AI applications.
