I’m a Wagnerian at heart, drawn to German opera, literature, and the old sagas that stitch them together. Each summer I conduct research at universities across Germany and Switzerland, and languages are my passport. I recharge by drawing and chasing high mountain trails to feel the sublime. Kafka’s Das Schloss is my favorite German book—quintessentially Kafkaesque, and a maze I hope never to enter. Lauterbrunnen, often linked to Tolkien’s Rivendell, remains my favorite destination, where mountains and myth meet.
