Global Languages Lecturer Wakana Maekawa has been named a recipient of the 2026 Teaching with Digital Technology Award, recognizing her outstanding and student-centered use of digital tools in the classroom. Nominated and selected by students, the award highlights educators who create meaningful, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences through thoughtful integration of technology.

In 21G.S51 (Special Subject: Japanese I), Maekawa combines carefully structured digital resources—such as pre-scheduled instructional videos and interactive platforms like Padlet—with in-person practice to support student learning. Her approach not only strengthens language acquisition but also fosters a welcoming environment where students feel encouraged to participate, take risks, and grow. As one student noted, she creates a space where everyone feels “included, supported, and encouraged to make mistakes that progress the acquisition of course content.”

Maekawa’s recognition reflects her commitment to building both strong learning foundations and a sense of community in the classroom, exemplifying the innovative and student-driven spirit of this award.
