Bruno Perreau publishes new article in journal. This article shows that the French government and opponents of “marriage for all” shared the same depoliticized register of discourse.
Professor Bruno Perreau deconstructs the debate in France around marriage policy in an article, “The political economy of ‘marriage for all'” published in Vol. 39 #3 issue of Contemporary French Civilization available now online.
Perreau argues that Marriage is an institution that promotes solidarity between two families, gives access to social benefits, and organizes inheritance. The key role marriage plays in economic relations was not openly addressed by either side of the debate.
Perreau points out that views of what constitutes a family, and of adoption, children and parenting come to the fore in discussions of marriage policy and law.
