Margarita Ribas Groeger retired in 2020 as Senior Lecturer in Spanish. She had taught all levels of language classes since 1994. Before coming to MIT she was Senior Lector at Yale University.

The main focus of her language teaching is for students to explore the social and cultural diversity of Spanish-speaking communities while improving their language skills. Her research interests center on language pedagogy and instructional material design, especially in regards to the uses of technology, digital tools, games and simulations in language education. She has received several fellowships and grants for developing interactive multimedia projects and online materials for language teaching and learning.

She received the “Levitan Award for Excellence in Teaching” by the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; the “Academic Infinite Mile Award for Above and Beyond Service to the School and MIT”; and “Mentor of the Year” Awards, by the MIT Office of Minority Education in 2013 and 2016.
