Hee-Jeong Jeong – Facilitating Cross-Cultural Communication through Virtual Language Exchange
Abstract: This presentation introduces a virtual language exchange program that fosters language development and intercultural competence through peer discussions comparing Korean culture with each student’s own cultural background. By pairing participants with similar academic interests, the program encourages authentic dialogue, reflective engagement, and cross-cultural understanding. The project offers a scalable, learner-centered model for integrating cultural exchange into language education.

Dagmar Jaeger and Emily Goodling – “Integrating Visiting Artists into German Language Curriculum
Abstract: Berlin-based playwright and activist Sasha Salzmann (they/them) will complete an artist-in-residency visit at MIT during the Fall Semester, thanks to a grant from CAST. In this presentation, Dagmar Jaeger and Emily Goodling will discuss the ways in which they integrated their visit into German language courses at both the early intermediate and advanced level, with the goal of providing students with a unique, immediate experience during Salzmann’s time at MIT, as well as, where appropriate, creating more permanent modules in German curricula beyond the scope of Salzmann’s visit. Emily will also share her broader experiences with the logistics and funding application processes (through CAST, MITHIC, etc.) involved in planning various types of artist or expert classroom visits at MIT.
