IAP Chinese Abroad

 

Learn Chinese in Taiwan with additional visits to Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

MIT Global Languages offers 21G.S04 and 21G.S05 Special Subject: IAP Chinese Abroad in Taiwan in January 2026, hosted in collaboration with National Sun Yat-sen University.

Students will participate in daily language classes, complemented by cultural and experiential programs that showcase the diversity of Taiwanese culture, history, and industry. Following two weeks in Taiwan, the program will continue with a one-week tour of Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Language instruction will be conducted by Dr. Haohsiang Liao and Lecturer in Chinese Panpan Gao, with Professor Emma Teng.

Class is 9 credits. Program prerequisites are Chinese III Regular or Chinese II Streamlined.

Where

National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) is a research university located in Taiwan’s largest port city Kaohsiung.

Program costs

Program Fee: $700
Other estimated costs: $3,900

The program fee will cover accommodation, campus facilities, program activities, and the Taipei–Hong Kong airfare. Other estimated expenses—including international airfare, local transportation, visa fees, meals, and discretionary spending—are not be included in the program fee.

Applications will be reviewed without regard for financial aid need. Selected students will be notified of need-based aid available to them at the time of acceptance.
