Olá! My name is Alex, and I’m a junior at MIT, studying 6-4 with a minor in African and African Diaspora Studies. My journey with Portuguese began with a love for Brazilian music across many genres, and that spark quickly grew into a deeper connection with the language. Studying Portuguese has opened my eyes to the rich cultures of the Lusophone world, and Portuguese now holds a special place in my heart. Through MIT/MISTI, I spent last IAP in Brazil—exploring São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador—which strengthened my appreciation for the country’s history, diversity, and warmth. In the future, I look forward to returning to Brazil and discovering even more of its vibrant regions and traditions.
