In a message to the MIT community, MIT President Rafael Reif announced the passing of Jing Wang, S.C. Fang Professor of Chinese Languages and Culture. Wang held a primary affiliation in Global Studies and Languages (the predecessor of Global Languages) from her MIT appointment in 2001 through 2019 and was a dedicated supporter and advocate of Chinese studies throughout her MIT tenure.

Global Languages joins the MIT community in mourning a dynamic scholar and activist, dedicated mentor, and cherished colleague.

You can read more about her life and work in MIT News and in an obituary published by Times Higher Education. Those interested to honor Wang’s memory may do so with a gift to the Candy R. Wei International Travel Endowment Fund. Further information on a memorial will be announced as confirmed.
