2022 Student Awards for Excellence

Celebrating the passion and devotion our students

Awarded annually, this prize is presented to outstanding students in Global Languages who best reflect the unit’s goals for achievement of proficiency in language and cultural understanding, and enthusiasm in language learning.

The Student Award for Excellence recipients were recognized at the Global Languages Spring Fest on April 28. Left to right are students Luz Grisales, Linh Nguhen, and Brian Hoh (with lecturer Nilma Dominique in the background).

Brian Hoh, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Class of 2022. First Prize for his study of German, Chinese, and Russian. Brian has an amazing gift for languages: a native speaker of Korean, who has taken German, Chinese, and Russian classes at MIT. Brian taught himself Russian by listening to songs, watching videos, and practicing grammar on his own. He joined Russian classes at MIT at level IV! He is constantly seeking ways to improve his linguistic knowledge.

Luz Grisales Gomez, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Class of 2022. Recipient of the Ellen Crocker Distinguished Scholar award for her study of Portuguese and French. In addition to being an extremely talented and earnest student, Luz is inquisitive and articulate. She has an enthusiasm and passion for learning, and commitment to the intellectual endeavor.

Linh Nguyen, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Class of 2022. Recipient of the Margarita Ribas Groeger Distinguished Scholar award for her work in Spanish and French. Linh’s outstanding achievements reflect a consistent passion for Spanish language and cultures. She is always engaged, well prepared and takes every opportunity to interact with people around her.
