Awarded annually, this prize is presented to outstanding students in Global Languages who best reflect the unit’s goals for achievement of proficiency in language and cultural understanding, and enthusiasm in language learning.
Michael Sutton, Course 6, Class of 2023. First Prize, for his studies of Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Michael is passionate about connecting with others through languages and in gaining a better understanding of their cultures. He is an extremely conscientious and committed student.
Theo St. Francis, Aero-Astro, Class of 2023, for his studies of Portuguese. Theo is the personification of effort and determination. He took practically all the classes that the Portuguese program offers. Although he dedicated himself to learning only one language at GL, he clearly reflects “the unit’s goals for the achievement of proficiency in language, cultural understanding and enthusiasm in language learning.”
Nghi Nguyen, Course 6, Class of 2023, for her studies of French and Japanese. Nghi’s studies of French included efforts to understand the influence of France had on Vietnam. For one project, she researched how a traditional Vietnamese dress had Chinese and French origins ,and how that dress evolved over time to reflect various historical periods and changes in Vietnamese society.
