The German Studies Excellence Awards 2025 were held on April 29 to honor students’ work and accomplishments in AY2025.
Speakers and presenters included Per Urlaub, Director of MIT Global Languages, Dagmar Jaeger, Senior Lecturer in German, Abby MacKenzie, MIT Germany, Jörg Süßenbach, Director of the Goethe Institute Boston, and Elizabeth von Wagner, Consulate General of Germany.
The German Studies Excellence Award is sponsored by MIT Global Languages, MIT-Germany, and the Consulate General of Germany, Boston.
Tamara Hinderman ‘25 won the First Prize of the German Studies Excellence Award 2025, a round-trip ticket to Germany, for her essay “Probier’s mal mit Gleichwertigkeit – Synchronisationsstrategien in Das Dschungelbuch und Aristocats”. Her essay is a compelling analysis of the history and impact of German film synchronization, focusing on the exceptional commercial success of Disney animated feature films in the West German market during the 1970s and ’80s.
