The world premiere ofTwilight Chorus (for Humans) was held Thursday, June 21 at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

The Twilight Chorus is new vocal work composed by Pete M. Wyer. Inspired by MIT professor Shigeru Miyagawa’s theory that human speech evolved from birdsong, Wyer’s score features slowed-down transcripts of birdsong field recordings adapted for a choir of 16 human voices. During the performance, singers move through the Garden individually before converging as a chorus.

The composer, Pete M. Wyer, and Professor Shigeru Miyagawa made brief presentations between two 20-minute performances.
