About the film

Directed by Icíar Bollaín
Cuban / Spanish biography, 2018
Starring Carlos Acosta, Santiago Alfonso, Keyvin Martínez and Edilson Manuel Olbera Núñez.
Running time 115 minutes

Director Icíar Bollaín presents the life of Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, the first Black guest dancer in London for the Royal Ballet. While as a child Acosta avoids discipline and education in his natal Havana, his father sends him to the National Ballet School of Cuba. A story of overcoming obstacles through dance, Bollaín’s unique perspective mixes Acosta’s storytelling in first person through both dance and flashbacks of his upbringing in Cuba.
