Director Icíar Bollaín presents the life of Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, the first Black guest dancer in London for the Royal Ballet. While as a child Acosta avoids discipline and education in his natal Havana, his father sends him to the National Ballet School of Cuba. A story of overcoming obstacles through dance, Bollaín’s unique perspective mixes Acosta’s storytelling in first person through both dance and flashbacks of his upbringing in Cuba.
