Presentations

Douglas Morgenstern will be presenting on “Advantages and Limitations in Teaching a Distance Learning Course.” Based on insights acquired while teaching first-year Spanish at Harvard Extension, first via Skype and then Zoom, from 2014 to the present. This conversation- and chat-based presentation will be given remotely. Those in attendance will experience the same online environment as his students.

Liana Ewald will present on communicative activities for blended and online classes.

Sun-Hee Lee will present on “Developing Blended Learning Modules for Korean.”

Hee-Jeong Jeong will introduce the types of online Korean language courses in US colleges and share ideas for an online Korean class at MIT.

  • Senior Lecturer Emeritus in Spanish

Douglas Morgenstern, Senior Lecturer Emeritus in Spanish, taught intermediate and advanced Spanish language courses from 1980 until his retirement from MIT in 2011. Previously he taught Spanish at Stanford University, Spanish and ESL at community colleges in California, and English in Colombia, where he served in the Peace Corps. He has taught first-year Spanish at the Harvard University Extension School since 1981, given entirely online since 2014.

Liana Ewald has been teaching in the Spanish section at MIT since 2017. Prior to coming to MIT, she was Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at San Diego State University. She recently completed an online course on online language instruction through Michigan State University.

Sun-Hee Lee
  • Associate Professor, Wellesley College

Sun-Hee Lee is an associate professor at Wellesley College and serves as the chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. During her tenure at Wellesley, she developed a full-fledged Korean language curriculum and established a new major program in the Korean Language. Over the past five years, she has led several projects developing blended learning resources for language instruction and other proficiency-based curricula.
